Allergies

This is the time of year that many people begin to suffer from allergies. Common Symptoms include:

  • Runny nose and watery eyes
  • Sore throat
  • Cough at night or all day
  • Rashes
  • Asthma or Shortness of breathe
  • Headaches

Allergies are not curable but can be controlled. Here are some simple steps to help prevent symptoms and control attacks.

  • Consider using an air-conditioner in the summer and spring
  • Clean you air-conditioner’s filter before using them and often throughout the season
  • Wear a mask when cutting the grass and shower afterwards
  • Flush irritated eyes with cool water and apply a cold compress
  • Use an over the counter medication at bedtime if nighttime symptoms are you problem

If these steps do not control your allergies or frequent day time symptoms are your complaint, you may require prescription medication. Prescription allergy drugs are not more effective than over the counter medications but, may help avoid sleepy side-effects.

Prescription treatment may involve oral medication, nasal sprays or both. (Most allergens enter the body through the nose. Treatment here can prevent many symptoms)

Some patients require treatment everyday and others only before certain exposures. We can help you find the right way to use your medication

On a rare occasion allergy shots are necessary. If this is required we can help you arrange this treatment.
